Has Pizza Peaked? Domino's Leader Departs Following Pivot Into Chicken.

The chief executive of Domino's Pizza Group who suggested the UK might have reached pizza saturation while expanding the company into fried chicken has been removed after conflicts with its governing body.

Leadership Shake-Up

Andrew Rennie is exiting after only 24 months in charge, and will be succeeded on an acting basis by the organization's operations head, Frampton, while the pizza giant searches for a permanent CEO.

Rennie, who was with Domino's for over 20 years, had attempted to pivot the UK's biggest pizza food delivery firm towards chicken offerings, remarking recently there was not “significant expansion” left in the British pizza industry. He observed poultry was the quickest rising protein in the world.

Governance Tensions

Sources suggest that there was disagreement between Rennie and the directors over his focus and business vision, although Domino's announcement said he was departing “by mutual agreement”.

New Brand Introduction

In the autumn, Domino's unveiled its Chick 'N' Dip product line – which the former chief called a “bold new chapter” for the group – and is trialling it in over 200 locations in the north-west of England and the province.

While the company is still planning to expand it across its extensive network in 2026 as scheduled, it considers chicken products as an addition to its core pizza business.

Board Comment

Bull, the Domino's chair, said: “We are confident that there are a range of possibilities to drive further growth and profitability in our primary operations. We are concentrating on identifying the right chief executive to direct the disciplined execution of that development approach.”

Industry Difficulties

In the latest update, the pizza delivery giant, which has a substantial customer base in the UK and Ireland, said transactions dipped by 1.5 percent in the third quarter. In August, it alerted that the takeaway market had “become tougher” as it attributed economic uncertainty in the run-up to the budget and higher payroll outlays for disappointing revenue and a 15% drop in six-month income.

Other pizza operators are also experiencing difficulties. Pizza Hut disclosed the shutting of 68 restaurants a recently, after the company behind its British operations entered insolvency.

Wellness Efforts

Adapting to market shifts towards balanced diets, Domino's has rolled out lower-calorie options, such as its light base selection of pizzas below 400 calories as well as plant-based and wheat-free pizzas. A family-sized pepperoni has 2,311 kcals. A large cheese and tomato pizza has 2,171, while a individual has 909 kcal.

Interim Leadership

Nicola Frampton has been with Domino's since the recent past, and had a background at the gaming group a well-known operator. It is believed that she is not seeking to take on the CEO position permanently.

Frampton stated: “Our team has a multiple current growth and performance initiatives that we will be focused on executing at speed.”

She said these comprised additional efforts on the organization's supply chain and menu innovation, and its loyalty scheme.

The pizza chain is also in need of a permanent finance director until the spring, when a new appointee starts from the beverage producer C&C Group. In the meantime, Snow acts as temporary CFO.
