This medication is an experimental injectable developed by US drugmaker Eli Lilly. The treatment affects three gut hormones – glucagon-like peptide-1, GIP and glucagon. Within moments of entering one community, a seller posted WhatsApp details, where most transactions occur. The seller provided an instruction manual and promised shipping within two days. When asked whether the product was genuine, one vendor responded: “You can’t be sure.” Another shared a image of a alleged laboratory certificate. None asked about body mass, medical conditions or past usage.

Inside these communities, posts show black plastic packages with postal service stickers, stating to contain fresh supplies. One message read: “It took eight of us to load them this morning.”

But counterfeit injections are highly dangerous. You cannot know what’s contained or whether the conditions they were made in was sterile,” she explained.
